Messages from the Director

October 2001

During the ˇ§2001 First Direct Selling Industry Summitˇ¨ held by Direct Selling Research Center in January this year, the conception of Welfare Activity United by Direct Selling Industry was raised and received everyoneˇ¦s assent. Later on, the corresponding committee was established with the director of the Direct Selling Research Center carrying trustworthy personality being nominated for the chairman to follow up the progress. After several discussions among the committee members, a proposal was developed and was amended and approved by participants in the 2001 Second Direct Selling Industry Summit in July.

The proposal immediately received positive responses from 14 direct selling companies who were willing to subscribe T-shirts and resell them to the direct selling distributors. The fund generated from sale was then forwarded to the orphanages. This activity shows that cares surrounds the direct selling industry and presents a more significant meaning ˇV people in direct selling industry are willing to work with one another to perform a meaningful thing despite of their roles, members of DSA (Direct Selling Association) or not. This is a good start. If all decent direct selling companies are able to cohere together to establish firm strength, we will be able to manage the order of the direct selling market by nurturing fine companies and eliminating worse ones and enhance the reputation of the direct selling industry. Meanwhile, Direct Selling Research Center will actively contribute effort to help enhancing the image of the direct selling industry.

Under the great supports from DSA and donations from all parties, ˇ§The Sixth Academic Symposium on Direct Sellingˇ¨ has presented successfully, contented with the appraisal for the best performing companies in the united welfare event and the academic symposium on direct selling holding at the afternoon of October 19, 2001.

Due to the flood, battles and economy depression occurred this year, we have waived the registration fee for this symposium to encourage people in the direct selling industry to attend. People want to have the proceedings of the symposium can purchase them at costs. We are also grateful to Amway Corp. and Avon Corp. for supplying gifts to those show up early, which levies our pressure.

Since the establishment of DSRC website http://www.DSRC.nsysu.edu.tw, we have been consistently receiving relative information about direct selling and publishing them online for interested parties. In addition, the collection of thesis and other articles possessed by DSRC are available online in full text to allow the public to obtain knowledgeable and informational news about direct selling operation.

Hopefully people from the direct selling industry can respond to our appeals by actively providing us information and resources. Let our direct selling industry acknowledged by public, amplify more functions and accomplish more. Have our academic and management standards of direct selling leading the world through our collaboration.

Sincerely,
